Why using Hemp Helps Us

Hemp plants.

When people are asked, “What is cannabis?”, most people will respond “marijuana”.  Actually, cannabis is both marijuana and hemp. The vital difference between these two species is the level of a cannabinoid called THC(tetrahydrocannabinol). Hemp, by definition needs to contain less than .3% of THC. At this level the hemp plant does not have the psychoactive effects that a marijuana plant would have if ingested. Hemp has been used since the beginning of time for health and wellness, textiles, building material, ropes and so many other items. Marijuana also has medicinal qualities, but it is also used for recreational purposes of getting people high.

If we focus on the hemp plant, which our products are all made from, we would need to begin to understand the active components the plant. A hemp plant has active elements called cannabinoids. In fact THC, up until now, was probably the most well known. But thanks to extensive research conducted by countries like Israel and eventually the United States through the National Institute of Health, we now know that the hemp plant has over 100 cannabinoids. Another cannabinoid called Cannabidiol—better known as CBD—has gained public interest in the last few years.  One reason this has occurred is that scientists discovered we actually have a 12th system of the body called the Endocannabioid System. Endo means internal or within and cannabinoid means any group of compounds that are found in cannabis. So basically our body makes its own cannabinoids and interacts with our Endocannabioid System which is responsible for restoring and maintaining our homeostasis, or in other words, our normal physical equilibrium.

So why use Healios CBD products? In 2018 the Federal Farm Bill, which included the Hemp Act, was passed making hemp legal to grow and sell again since it was made illegal in 1937 in the United States. Because our ability to acquire products with cannabinoids in them was seriously limited, our ECS may in fact have become unbalanced over time. Now that does not mean everyones system is unbalanced, but since we do not have a test to check the balance of this system we will not know until the test is created or we try hemp extract. Research has however found that a deficient ECS can cause imbalances in other systems of the body. We believe that using a premium product that is fully laboratory tested made from hemp is something everyone should try. It isn’t until people try hemp extract will they know if they can feel better or not. We also want you, the consumer, to know that having informed conversations with your physicians is an important piece of this experience. To date, research has found that using hemp extract can interact with certain medications and it is important that if you are taking any medication have a conversation with your physician. Also, if you have any underlying health issues, are pregnant or nursing consult your doctor.

Delta 9 Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC)

The phytocannabinoid that is reponsible for the psychoactive effects of medical cannabis.

Cannabichromene (CBC)

May contribute to the overall analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and anti-fungal effects of medical cannabis.

Cannabinol (CBN)

A non-psychoactive cannabinoid with analegisic properties that reportedly aids in sleep and appetite regulation.

Cannabidivarin (CBDV)

Similar in structure as cannabidiol, CBDV has been reported to have powerful anti-convulsive effects.

Tetrahydrocannabivarin (THCV)

A non-psychoactive precursor and regulator of various key phytocannabinoids.

Cannabigerovarin (CBGV)

CBGV has been shown to have great potential for treating cancer, as it displayed potential to inhibit the growth and division of leukaemic cells and caused a simultaneous arrest at all phases of the cell cycle.
